Museum of World Cultures Frankfurt am Main
The Museum of World Cultures in Frankfurt is home to an extraordinary collection. The artefacts from all continents and island states and the visual anthropology collection featuring photographs and video material never fail to impress and amaze visitors.
The museum's holdings include objects from the prehistoric era, collections from the 18th to 20th centuries and pieces acquired this millennium. An image archive with some 120,000 ethnographic photographs and videos from the past and present, and a library with 50,000 books and periodicals are on site too. The main vision of the Museum of World Cultures is to bring together ethnological research, advanced artistic practice and experimental approaches to analysis, translation and knowledge sharing.
Events are held in the museum's exhibition spaces and the World Cultures Lab, which boasts studios for artists, guest accommodation and seminar rooms. Artefacts from the collection are reinterpreted in the lab and exhibitions are prepared here too. The Museum of World Cultures provides guided tours, workshops and project days and weeks. Opening times: Tuesday, Thursday to Sunday: 11 am–6 pm, Wednesday: 11 am–8 pm
