Five Rivers Route – an adventure through the centre of Bavaria alongside five rivers
The Five Rivers Route is a loop through the stunning landscapes of the Bavarian Jura and the Franconian Alb that links sections of several long-distance cycle tours to create one that is perfect for families.
The five rivers on the route are the Danube, Altmühl, Naab, Vils und Pegnitz. And cyclists find themselves travelling alongside the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal along the way too. The UNESCO World Heritage town of Regensburg, along with Nuremberg, Amberg and Kelheim, are just some of the places waiting to be explored on this route. This means there is plenty of opportunity to admire historical buildings, which make a more than worthy backdrop for tucking into some Bavarian speciality dishes. Rustic natural experiences, such as the Danube Gorge near Weltenburg and the Upper Palatinate rock formations, never fail to impress. And they are perfectly complemented by architectural monuments that are just as spectacular. Cyclists can pedal through the Vils Valley along disused railway tracks and cycle all the way to the picturesque district of Kallmünz. Cycle routes don't get better than this – what more could any keen cyclist wish for?
