Oder-Neisse Cycle Route – a flowing border
The Oder-Neisse Cycle Route follows the two rivers along the border between Germany and Poland. The signposting along the route is impressive and the traffic is minimal all the way. There is plenty of opportunity to head off on a detour to Poland too.
The River Neisse may rise up in the Czech Republic, but almost all of this cycle route follows the border between Germany and Poland until it reaches its final destination of the Szczecin Lagoon. The Old Town of Görlitz is well worth a visit, whilst the Prince Pückler Nature Park in Bad Muskau is hard to resist. Just like Görlitz, the border towns of Guben in Germany and Gubin in Poland were one and the same until they were divided up after the war in 1945. The route proceeds to Eisenhüttenstadt and Frankfurt (Oder). And then it's on to the Oderbruch marshland and the Lower Oder Valley National Park. Near Mescherin, the River Oder bends towards Szczecin in Poland, whilst the cycle path heads in the direction of Ueckermünde and its final destination.
