Berlin-Usedom Island Cycle Route – urban settings and sea breezes
The Berlin-Usedom Island Cycle Route helps cyclists escape from the hustle and bustle of the German capital, leading them to the vast expanse of nature in the densely wooded Barnim area and the Uckermark district with its many lakes all the way to the island of Usedom and the Baltic Sea.
The route begins in Berlin, covering flat and hilly terrain, with some dirt tracks along the way. From Bernau, cyclists pass through forests and hills in a landscape shaped by the Ice Age. Barnim Nature Park and Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve are home to plenty of unspoiled nature. Plus, there are lots of stately homes, churches, abbeys, museums and other cultural delights along the route. Cyclists then stick by the River Uecker until they reach Ueckermünde. Once they've passed Anklam, the long-distance cycle path leads them to the island of Usedom. Here, the imperial resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin await. The route then comes to an end in Peenemünde.
