The Jurasteig Trail - hiking for pleasure seekers in Bavaria
Dinosaurs lived back in the Jurassic period. They have long since died out, but the stones from this era still remain. The 237 kilometre Jurasteig Trail brings us closer to this extraordinary Jurassic landscape.
The circular route between Regensburg and Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz is highly diverse. We hike along alpine paths and through meadows with fluttering butterflies. We cross beautiful pine and beech forests and stay overnight in sleepy Bavarian villages in the Upper Palatinate. We do a tour of a robbers' cave (be careful not to disturb the bats!) and hike across a moor. We climb up rocky mountain slopes and see a deer park. The river valleys of the Danube, Naab and Altmühl form the backdrop of the Jurasteig Trail. We also come across numerous castles, abbeys and even a monastery castle on our hike. The Jurasteig Trail is a route for all pleasure seekers. Follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs on your hike!
TIP: Weltenburg Abbey
Manuel Andrack, editor, presenter, author and hiking blogger:
"Weltenburg Abbey is home to the world's oldest monastic brewery. The monks have been brewing their beer here since 1050. Their black beer has won the award for the world's best dark beer three times."
