Located in the heart of Hamburg next to the city hall, the Bucerius Kunst Forum organizes four exhibitions each year, presenting world-class works of art from antiquity to the present day. It is a place to exchange ideas and encounter a broad range of visual arts.

All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility certified - accessible for people with walking disabilities and partially accessible for wheelchair users".

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • There are six marked parking spaces for people with disabilities in the underground car park of the Buceriuspassage.
  • The building is accessible without steps.
  • All evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are accessible at ground level or via elevators:
    The cabin of the smaller elevator measures 110 cm x 210 cm.
    The cabin of the large elevator measures 178 cm x 435 cm.
    The cabins of the elevators in the Buceriuspassage (to the underground car park) measure 130 cm x 210 cm.
  • All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 90 cm wide.
  • The cash desks for the museum and the book shop are 110 cm high.
  • The exhibits/objects are predominately visible when seated. The information on the exhibits/objects is predominately readable when seated.
  • Seating is available in the exhibition.
  • Offered aids: wheelchair, folding stools

Public toilet for people with disabilities (basement)

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of the door 200 cm x 130 cm;
    behind the door, in front of the toilet and the washbasin 210 cm x 165 cm;
    left and right of the toilet 115 cm x 70 cm.
  • There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rails can be flipped-up.
  • The sink is wheelchair compatible.
  • An alarm trigger is available.

  • There is no clearly visible alarm. In case of evacuation, the building will be evacuated by the supervisory staff.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevators is confirmed audibly.
  • Information about the exhibits and objects is provided in written and audio form. 
  • There is a multimedia guide to each exhibition including an audio tour (via the BKF app). 
  • Hearing amplifiers for guided tours and the audio guide can be borrowed at the ticket office.
  • Guided tours in German Sign Language are offered through the Museumsdienst Hamburg. Advance reservation is necessary.

  • Assistance dogs may be brought along.
  • All evaluated and usable areas for the guest are well illuminated, i.e. bright and glare-free.
  • There are no visually contrasting or tactilely detectable floor indicators available.
  • The signage is designed in clearly legible and contrasting font.
  • There are glass doors without safety markings.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevators is confirmed audibly. The break position is announced by spoken commands in the smaller elevator, not in the other elevators. The operating controls in all elevators are visually rich in contrast and tactilely detectable. Alternatively stairs are available.
  • Stairs are not visually rich in contrast. Stairs have handrails on both sides.
  • The exhibits and objects are usually well illuminated.
  • Information about the exhibits and objects is provided in written and audio form. 
  • Written information is visually contrasting, but not available in Braille or prismatic font.
  • There is a multimedia guide to each exhibition including an audio tour (via the BKF app). 
  • Audio tours on the phone are offered as part of the "Bei Anruf Kultur" project (only in German).
