Accessibility Statement

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) endeavours to make its website accessible in accordance with national legislation implementing Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The legal basis for this is the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) in their current versions.

This accessibility statement applies to the website https://www.germany.travel/.

Status of compliance with the requirements

Due to the following incompatibilities and exceptions, this website is partially compatible with compliance Level AA of the "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1" or with the applicable European standard EN 301 549 V3.2.1.

The verification of compliance with the requirements was carried out by the "Telekom MMS LLC: Test and Integration Center" on behalf of the "State Monitoring Centre for Accessibility of Information Technology" on 7 August 2023.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not barrier-free for the following reasons:

a) Incompatibility with accessibility regulations

1.1 Visibility

On some pages, not all images and buttons have alternative texts – WCAG Guideline 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) is therefore not fulfilled. This means that some of the Success Criteria of WCAG guideline 1.2 (Time-based Media) and 2.4 (Navigable) may not be met. We are constantly working to rectify this.

2.4 Navigable

On some pages, link texts and title attributes are the same and are currently rendered twice by assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers). This does not fulfil WCAG Guideline 2.4.4 (Link Purpose (In Context)). We are constantly working to rectify this.

In addition, the purpose of some buttons is not yet labelled clearly enough and therefore the WCAG Guideline 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) is not fulfilled. We are constantly working to rectify this.

b) Disproportionate burden

1.2 Time-based Media

The videos currently offered on the website have no alternatives (transcript, audio descriptions). This means that WCAG success criteria 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)) and 1.2.5 (Audio Description (Prerecorded)) are not met. Having analysed the costs of retroactively adding alternatives to existing videos, we are of the opinion that this would represent a disproportionate burden in terms of accessibility regulations.

The creation of alternatives is planned for future video content and work is already underway to implement this.

4.1 Compatibility

Some of the interactive maps of Germany used on the website are unfortunately not compatible with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers). This means that WCAG guideline 4.1.2 (Name, Role and Value identifiable) is not fulfilled. Having analysed the costs of retroactively adapting the programming, we are of the opinion that this would represent a disproportionate burden in terms of accessibility regulations.

For future interactive elements, barrier-free use is planned and implemented from the outset.

c) The following content does not fall within the scope of the applicable legislation:

Some (mainly older) PDF documents and Office documents are not accessible. For example, PDF documents are not tagged so that they cannot be recognised and used by screen reader users, or only to an insufficient extent. This means that WCAG Guideline 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) is not fulfilled.

Creation of this accessibility statement

This declaration was prepared on 6 February 2024 on the basis of the assessments carried out by means of a simplified test (in accordance with BITV 2.0).

This declaration was last reviewed on 6 February 2024.
