Not to be missed – our cultural highlights for 2025
After Berlin, Weimar and Essen, Chemnitz is right at the centre of the international cultural scene this year as European Capital of Culture . The Saxon metropolis and its surrounding area attract visitors from all over the world with innovative event formats.
But there is also plenty going on in other German cities and regions in 2025. Art lovers in Berlin are celebrating the 200th anniversary of Museum Island with exhibitions, concerts and film events. Anyone interested in architecture and design should include Dessau on their itinerary from September this year. To mark its 100th birthday, the unique school of architecture and design is staging a wide range of special events for 16 months, celebrating the historic to the new European Bauhaus.
Musically, Germany is characterised by Johann Sebastian Bach. To commemorate the 275th anniversary of this Baroque composer's death, the many Bach cities and Bach festivals in Germany have made a special effort to honour the musical mastermind with top-class concerts and modern interpretations on his works.
Romantics won't want to the 50th anniversary of the German Fairytale Route. Around 60 places and regions along this famous holiday route tell the story of how the world-famous Brothers Grimm fairytales and legends came to be.
