Bamberg fascinates with its unique location on seven hills. Each hill has its own treasures and highlights. A must-see for every visitor to Bamberg is Bamberg Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, which houses the tombs of Emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II. The four striking towers of the cathedral are visible from afar and characterize the cityscape.
Not far from the cathedral, you'll find the Old Town Hall, which was built on an artificial island in the middle of the Regnitz and boasts an elaborate baroque and rococo façade. The story goes that the Bishop of Bamberg didn't want to give the citizens land to build a town hall, so they created their own island in the middle of the river!
