Off to a theme park with over 100 attractions, or to a wildlife paradise? Why choose between the two, when you can have both? To experience the Tripsdrill adventure paradise at peak relaxation, it's best to stay overnight. The accommodations there are sure to make a lasting impression, with chilled-out shepherd's wagons and sleeping huts located up to five metres above the forest floor. Speaking of lasting: special emphasis was placed on sustainability during the construction of the 50 or so magical tree houses that rest on robinia wood stilts.

Cloefhänger: pleasant state of suspension

Mountain climbers and TV series have cliffhangers; the Saarland has 'Cloefhaenger'. Its name refers to the breathtaking setting of the sleeping quarters, near the Cloef vantage point. Every Saturday, these are fastened in the middle of the trees – a few metres above the ground, but on the edge of the steep slopes of the Saar. There's no doubt about it: in these hanging tree tents, thrill takes centre stage. In the background, the Saarschleife offers a fantastic backdrop, especially set against the night sky.

The 'Hyt' is small, but extremely fine. It's pronounced 'huett', and is what the owners call their tiny house on the edge of the Bavarian Forest. Thanks to its wheels, this comfortable cabin is also rather mobile. But no matter where it is: nature is always close enough to touch – and a hot tub is never far away, nor is the cosy inn.

Naturerlebnishof Uferloos: tents, apartments, circus caravan

On the banks of the Brandenburg Oder, the possibilities around these accommodations are endless. For example, guests can hire canoes or bikes, take part in bat or dyke hikes, explore the farm, feed the animals or simply relax. The accommodations are a highlight: their range extends from holiday apartments and rooms to camping pitches. For something even more exciting, why not consider a night in a circus caravan or a yurt? Tip: it's best to try it all.

Witzenhausen, whose name literally translates to 'house of jokes', sounds like fun and the forest accommodations in the surrounding area promise exciting adventures in nature. All sleeping spaces are built from high-quality wood and recycled materials and, with the exception of the log cabin, are all nestled high up in the trees. The tree houses are somewhat on the modest side, the cork house is more comfortable and the ball tree house is rather unusual. And if the silence gets too loud? You'll usually encounter other guests in the 'Waldbar-Restaurant' or in the forest sauna.

Neugrad Eifel: highly relaxing

Some cabins in this 'tiny house village' are stylishly equipped with a sauna while others have giant windows for stargazing. Some are designed for two people, others for four. But all are made from natural materials. Each cabin has its own terrace and plenty of space. After all, they are spread out on a car-free 15,000 square metre plot in the heart of the Eifel National Park. In short, it's hard to imagine a more relaxing break, be it for yoga retreats or mini-sabbaticals.

Beach sleeping basket: whoosh, whoosh into the basket!

How does that sound? While the other beachgoers pack up and head home, just stay – all night long, the sound of the sea in your ears, the starry sky above. What may sound unusual, the Baltic Sea makes possible. Dotted in several places between Fehmarn, Travemünde and the Bay of Lübeck, beach baskets await the romantically inclined. And you can rest assured: a canopy with a porthole protects guests from dew or overnight showers.
