Colourful mountain meadows, a varied composition of mixed and coniferous forests and clear waters characterize the landscape in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. Wooded heights alternate with deep valleys and steep slopes.

Germany's oldest high-altitude hiking trail, the Rennsteig, runs through the nature park. It runs for around 170 kilometers along the ridge of the Thuringian Forest. In addition, the designated nature park trails open up the varied landscapes and offer hiking enjoyment for all abilities. Visitors gain an insight into the various habitats with their special plants and animals, geological features as well as local history, old forms of use and settlement and the typical crafts of the respective region. For motorized visitors, the nature park route is a suitable way through the nature park, as it leads to the most beautiful places in the Thuringian Forest over 450 kilometers.
