The Upper Lusatia Mountain Trail – an adventurous hike along the border region
The Upper Lusatia Mountain Trail takes us through picturesque landscapes at the tripoint between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. We get a closer look at the border region on exciting routes.
The trail boasts a fantastic mixture of mountains, rocks and traditional towns and villages. We hike across a number of mountains with a height of 800 metres. If you add up the elevations of the mountains in Upper Lusatia, this figure amounts to more than one eight-thousander in the Himalayas! We see the source of the Spree as it makes its way towards Berlin. As we continue along the trail, we see observation towers, mountain inns and former boundary stones. And as it is a mountain path, we see every kind of mountain, including ones formed of volcanic rock, granite and sandstone. Our hiking trail ends in the Zittau Mountains, Germany's smallest low mountain range. Narrow mountain trails take us up to sandstone rock formations and vantage points with views sprawling across Bohemia. The Upper Lusatia Mountain Trail is guaranteed to be a favourite among hikers!
TIP: Zittau
Manuel Andrack, editor, presenter, author and hiking blogger:
"Zittau is a wonderful city with amazing historic buildings. I highly recommend visiting a Bohemian restaurant: garlic soup, Bierwurst sausages and beef cheeks - yum!"
